PURPOSE:To obtain a high quality Ru-other metal two-color plated body having satisfactory adhesion and free from defects on the appearance such as a stain, unevenness and tarnish by forming a layer for ground on a substrate by plating, further forming an Ru layer by plating and patternwise dissolving and removing the Ru layer. CONSTITUTION:An underlayer 2 of Ni or the like is formed on the surface of a substrate 1 by plating (figure A) and a layer 3 of Au or the like for ground is formed on the surface of the layer 2 by plating (figure B). An Ru layer 4 is further formed on the surface of the layer 3 by plating (figure C) and the surface of the layer 4 is patternwise masked 6 (figure D). The plated substrate 1 as the anode 9 and an electrode as the cathode 10 are immersed in an alkali electrolytic soln. 8 in an electrolytic cell 7 and electric current is supplied between the electrodes 9, 10 to carry out electrolysis. By this electrolysis, the parts of the Ru layer 4 not covered with the mask 6 are dissolved and removed to obtain a desired Ru-other metal two-color plated body. The other metal may be Au.
