PURPOSE:To decrease a measuring manday, to reduce a measuring time and to attain a high quality line measurement and operation by connecting a variable attenuator to a slave station MODEM and measuring remotely a receiving level margin only with a master station MODEM end. CONSTITUTION:The master processing equipment 1 transmits a test command to a slave station 3 to be measured through the master station MODEM 2. The MODEM 3 operates a variable attenuator 5 provided at a receiving end, and successively changes the level of the descending signal. The equipment 1 continuously supervises the receiving condition of a response signal from the MODEM 3 to the MODEM 2 and the measuring result is obtained. In the measuring result, the attenuating value of the variable attenuator 5 just before reaching an undetermined area from a normal receiving condition comes to be the receiving level margin of the MODEM 3. Such a measurement is successively executed about the salve station MODEMs 3 of polling destination.
