PURPOSE:To obtain the titled yarn having specific physical properties, having crystallized irrespective of extremely high shrinkage percentage, showing excellent heat resistance and dimensional stability, comprising a totally aromatic polyamide consisting essentially of metaphenylene isophthalamide. CONSTITUTION:A totally aromatic polyamide having >=70mol.% polymer repeating unit comprising metaphenylene isophthalamide is used to give the aimed yarn having >=15% dry heat shrinkage percentage as 300 deg.C, 40-100% elongation at break and P value shown by formula (when the point at 2theta=10 deg. is connected to the point at 2theta=32 deg. of diffraction intensity distribution curve, a, b and c are distances between the straight line and the points at 2theta=25.5 deg., 2theta=27 deg. and 2theta=28.5 deg. of the diffraction intensity distribution curve in the longitudinal direction, respectively) of 40 obtained by the diffraction intensity distribution curve in the equatorial direction by X-ray diffractiometry.
