A heavy duty pneumatic tyre is built using circumferential reinforcement plies made from cords having an extensibility to break of at least 8% pref. 10-26 when the tyre is mounted, unpressurised, on a wheel, and a thermal contraction, at vulcanisation temps. of at least 1.25% pref. 2-8%. Esp. suitable for aircraft tyres designed so that the transverse curvature of the tread decreases when the mounted tyre is pressurised. The structure can tolerate sufficient strain by radial compression to avoid putting the subtread reinforcement plies adjacent to the carcass plies in compression with consequent reduction in their endurance. Distortion of the tread zone inwards due to contraction of the subtread reinforcement assists parting from the vulcanisation mould. |
