PURPOSE:To permit many times of satisfactory development without fogging by using a developer layer which consists of a toner and specific carrier and has the thickness smaller than the spacing between a latent image carrier and developer carrier in a development space to carry out the development. CONSTITUTION:The electrostatic latent image formed on the surface of the latent image carrier in the state of acting an oscillating electric field thereon in the development space is developed by the developer layer which consists of the toner and the carrier and has the thickness smaller than the spacing between the latent image carrier and the developer carrier in the development space. The above-mentioned carrier is formed by dispersing and incorporating fine particles of a magnetic material into a resin to form the resin particles dispersed with the magnetic material having 20-200mum weight average grain size and depositing fine resin particles for coating having the weight average grain size of <=1/10 the weight average of the resin particles dispersed with the magnetic material by dry coating on said resin particles dispersed with the magnetic material. Namely, the highly durable carrier with which good triboelectrostatic chargeability is stably obtainable is used and in addition, the development is carried out by a contactless development method in which the oscillating electric field is acted and, therefore, many times of the satisfactory development are executable without fogging.
