PURPOSE:To make the adaptation to an on-line system effective, by fixing and arranging three or more distance sensors in the longitudinal direction of a feed process and using an equation consisting of the functions of the measured distances from the distance sensors to an object to be measured each time when the object to be measured moves and the moving quantity, oscillating quantity and a camber configuration of the object to be measured in the lateral direction thereof as unknown quantities. CONSTITUTION:Each time when a feed material 1 being an object to be measured is fed over an arbitrary length, the distance measured values up to the side surfaces thereof are obtained by three distance sensors S1-S3. A large number of equations containing the coefficients of the functions supposed as the moving quantity, oscillating quantity and a camber configuration of the feed material 1 in the lateral direction thereof in feed timing as unknown quantities are obtained and simultaneous equations wherein the moving quantity and oscillating quantity in the lateral direction and the primary coefficient and constant item of the functions are erased from said equations are obtained. A large number of the previous equations are solved on the basis of the calculated coefficients to correct the moving quantity and oscillating quantity accompanied by the feeding of the feed material 1 when a distance measured value is obtained are corrected and an accurate camber configuration is measured.
