摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain a titled recording medium with which defective initialization hardly arises and information can be stably recorded and erased by using a material having a heat conductivity smaller than the heat conductivity of a recording layer to form the parts of the 1st and 2nd protective layers adjacent to the recording layer and forming a reflecting layer which reflects a light beam to the side of the 2nd protective layer opposite from the recording layer. CONSTITUTION:The protective layer 12, the recording layer 13, the protective layer 14 and the reflecting layer 15 are formed in this order on a substrate 11. The protective layers 12, 14 are so disposed as to sandwich the recording layer 13 and are formed of the material such as, for example, amorphous silicon having the heat conductivity lower than the heat conductivity of an In-Sb alloy. The protective layers 12, 14 are so formed as to prevent erosion of the recording layer 13 and to suppress the release of heat from the recording layer 13 by providing heat insulation to the recording layer 13. The reflecting layer 15 is formed of metal such as, for example, aluminum to reflect a laser beam 18 projected thereto at the time of recording. The defective initialization is thereby suppressed and the information is stably recorded and erased.
