PURPOSE:To exactly control the flow-down velocity of cells automatically by passing individual cells through proximate two points, measuring the pass time, and controlling the cell delivery speed until a difference between the average pass time and set reference pass time is eliminated. CONSTITUTION:A sample liquid 22 is injected to the axial center part of a flow cell 10 and a sheath liquid 52 to a liquid chamber 24, respectively. These liquids are guided to a flow-down device 66. The light from a laser generator 68 is branched and focused to the two points (a) (b) respectively of the device 66. The data sets on the intensity of the forward scattered light, the intensity of the side scattered light and the intensity of the fluorescent light are respectively collected by photodetectors 80, 92, 96 and are supplied to a data processor 82 and a controller 32. The controller 32 controls the processor 82 to discriminate the kinds and characteristics of the cells; in addition, the controller measures the pass time between the two points (a) and (b) of the cells and drives a pulse motor 30 via a driver 34 to eliminate the difference between the average time tau thereof and the reference pass time tau0, thereby controlling the flow-down speed of cells. The automatic and exact measurement is thus permitted. |
