A compressed-gas-insulated high-voltage power switch having a connection resistor which is switched by means of an auxilliary switching path, which is structurally identical to the main switching path and has a separate drive. In the case of the known switches, the connection resistor is connected by mechanical coupling which is accommodated in the housing of the main switching path. This mechanism, which is difficult to accommodate, is costly and provides poor access is avoided in that an auxilliary switching path (4), which is constructed from the same modules (building blocks) as the main switching path (3), is equipped with a separate drive (8), and the drive (7) for the main switching path (3) is driven such that it is delayed with respect to the drive (8) for the auxilliary switching path (4). <IMAGE>
