PURPOSE:To systematically and easily understand the contents of a file by reading out hierarchically recorded management information from an optical memory card managed in each file and selecting slave management information on the basis of its master management information to display the selected information. CONSTITUTION:A slave directory with a label (l=0101...010n) to be a lower level directory is connected to a master directory with a label (l=01) and a slave directory with a label (l=010101...01010n) to be lower level directory is similarly connected to a slave directory with a label (l=0101), and proceeding successively in similar manner. Comment information is added to each directory. At the time of retrieving data, the directory 11 is hierarchically displayed.
