Dazzling light from the headlamps of following vehicles which is directed via the outside mirror into the eyes of the car driver forces the driver either to ward off the light beam with his hand held flat or to tilt his body right to the side. Both fending-off movements lead to a reduction in the ability to drive. The proposals put forward here have the aim of reducing the annoying dazzle by means of tinted glass or plastic to such an extent that the headlamps of the following vehicle, or of the vehicle just overtaking, are perceived in the side mirror as no more than bright spots. Four alternatives are proposed. In three cases the protection against dazzle is increased or reduced by simple triggering of mechanisms on the respective anti-dazzle devices, in the fourth case, in contrast, the driver removes himself from the light beam directed at him via the outside mirror by slight lifting or lowering of the head.
