PURPOSE:To obtain the titled resin outstanding in heat resistance, flexibility and flame-retardancy, reduced in residual stress, by dissolving a dicyclopentadiene-modified phenolic resin in a solvent followed by bromination. CONSTITUTION:The objective resin of formula II (x and y are each 1-3) can be obtained by dissolving (A) a dicyclopentadiene-modified phenolic resin of formula I (n is 0-15) prepared by copolymerization between phenol and dicyclopentadiene in (B) a solvent (e.g., CH2Cl2, CH3OH) so as to be pref. 0.5-4 pts.wt. of the solvent per pt.wt. of the resin A followed by bromination at pref. 0-30 deg.C.
