PURPOSE:To facilitate the building-in work of a magnetic head in the assembling process of a magnetic disk device by reducing the plate thickness according as going toward the outside peripheral edge from the center of rotation. CONSTITUTION:When a pair of magnetic heads supported by arms are built in for a magnetic disk 2 in the assembling process of the magnetic disk device, they are so built in that the magnetic disk 2 is interposed in the gap between surfaces facing each other of magnetic heads 5. In this case, since the thickness of the magnetic disk 2 is reduced according as going toward outside peripheral edge sides B from a center A of rotation and outside peripheral edges B are thin, there is at least such gap between two head surfaces facing each other that magnetic head 5 can be smoothly built in while interposing the magnetic disk 2 between themselves. Thus, the building-in work is facilitated and the damage of the disk surface and head surfaces at the time of work is prevented.
