PURPOSE:To enable even an overhead wire which has an obstacle such as a damper to travel by detecting the obstacle on the overhead wire by an obstacle detector. CONSTITUTION:A cylindrical coil holder 12 is arranged between a couple of rollers 10 and 10 for traveling, six detection coils 13 are fitted on the inner peripheral surfaces of the holder half parts 12A and 12B, and the overhead wire 4 is traveled in the center of the holder 12. The respective coils 13 have differences in detected voltage during the travel of a flaw detector if the element wire of the wire 4 has a fault or disconnection, and the difference voltage is outputted as a detection signal. Then when there is thee damper on the wire 4, a slider which is positioned before in the traveling direction abuts on the fitting part of the damper and is elevated and a microswitch sends the detection signal to a solenoid valve 27. The valve 27, therefore, operates, then link members 21A and 21B are rocked, and the lower parts of other link members 22A and 22B are rocked upward accordingly so the holder half parts 12A and 12B leave each other. Consequently, the holder 12 is prevented from abutting on the damper.
