PURPOSE:To realize the automatic response of data transmission by a general subscriber telephone set, by providing a control means which judges whether transmission is the data transmission or not based on the presence/absence of high tone transmission from an opposite station at the time of receiving the transmission and changes a mode to a required reception mode based on a result. CONSTITUTION:The titled system is provided with a telephone circuit main body 3, a data transmission modem 4 which modulates/demodulates data to a trunk line signal, a voice signal recording means 5 which records a bit of message information as a voice signal, and a control means 6 which originates a required message to an opposite station by driving the voice signal recording means 5 when a line is connected to the telephone set of the opposite station, and judges whether the transmission is the data transmission or not based the presence/absence of the high tone transmission from the opposite station at the time of reception, and changes the mode to the necessary reception mode, based on the result. In such a way, the connection of a data transmitter by the automatic response can be realized in the general subscriber telephone.
