PURPOSE:To permit data processing always in parallel with normal reading and prereading by executing the prereading of sheets successively in a reading part, then allowing the sheets to stand by in a standby zone, properly taking out the sheets from these sheets and executing the normal reading. CONSTITUTION:The sheet 1 taken out of a cassette 2 is conveyed by a sheet conveying part 50A and is transiently held in a stacker 40. The sheet 1 in the stacker 40 is then conveyed in an arrow A2 direction by the conveying part 50A and is fed into the reading part 20 where the prereading to read the outline of image information is executed. The sheet 1 is conveyed in arrow A4-A6 directions by a conveying part 50B and is fed into an empty sheet conveying part 42 in the stacker 40. Such prereading to the sheet 1 is continuously executed. The sheet 1 subjected to the data processing is sent again to the reading part 20 and is subjected to the normal reading when the data processing of the sheet 1 subjected to such prereading ends. The sheet 1 subjected to the normal reading is conveyed by the sheet conveying part 50B and is sent to an erasing part 30.
