A device for manufacturing small clear ice bodies (6) has an evaporator (1), cooled with a coolant circuit (2'), with freezing cells (3) open on their underside. Arranged below the evaporator (1) is a tray (4) which can be filled with water (5). Evaporator (1) and tray (4) are mounted in a fixed manner. A roller (7), which rolls along on the lower edge of the evaporator (1), and a conveying and spraying device (8) for the tray water (5) assigned to the roller are, with the aid of an endless traction means (9), drawn through the tray (4) and drawn around it. The rotation of the roller (7) is geared up via an intermediate gear into a rapid rotation of the conveying and spraying device (8) so that the scooping members (17) thereof spray the tray water (5) directly upwards into the freezing cells (3). The finished small ice bodies (6) which are defrosted out of the freezing cells (3) are pushed by the roller (7) to the end of the tray (4) and lifted over its oblique end wall (16) so that they can fall, separated from the residual tray water, into a storage container. <IMAGE>
