ELECTRIC MOTOR WITH DC BRAKE

The motor has a two-part shaft with an externally extending portion of nonmagnetic material and an internal portion of free cutting metal. The motor (12) also has a rotor (16) with a shaft (14) on which a DC excited brake device (10) is mounted. The shaft comprises a portion (14a) which fits in the rotor inside the motor housing, and is made of a free cutting metal, e.g., Cr-Mo steel. A second portion (14b) made of a nonmagnetic metal, extends to the exterior of the motor housing e.g., stainless steel, and is connected to the first portion (14a) by a friction pressure welding.
