PURPOSE:To increase the capacity together with improvement of the reliability, the controllability and the operability and to improve the completeness, by using an optical disk whose information is controlled by a computer. CONSTITUTION:The drives 31'-33' for floppy disks of different diameters which are controlled by a built-in floppy disk controller via a computer are provided to a floppy disk/optical disk drive 4 together with the optical disk drives 34a and 34b connected to a built-in optical disk interface. Then an optical disk 400 is controlled by the computer 2 via a built-in optical disk data control means which controls the information on the disk 400. Thus, the information on the floppy disk are preserved. While the capacity of the disk 400 is extremely increased owing to its constitution for improvement of its reliability with no influence of a magnetic field, etc. The controllability of a directory is improved because the control of the directory does not depend on an OS. Then, the disk 400 is controlled by a fixed procedure regardless of the format system for improvement of the operability. Thus, the completeness of a floppy disk preserving device is improved.
