PURPOSE:To set an effective gradation processing curve at a look-up table LUT with a simple operation by designating the position of a an interested area of a display screen and setting the center coordinates of an input variable of the gradation processing curve at the position of said interested area. CONSTITUTION:When the information on a position in a display screen of a CRT6 is supplied to a position designating part 1 via a track ball, etc., the part 1 produces an address to designate the picture element of said position or the periphery of this position and gives an access to a picture memory 2. Then the part 1 sends the luminance data on the picture elements of the memory 2 to an LUT setting part 3. The part 3 sets a gradation processing curve where the input luminance data is defined as the center coordinates of an input variable and then sets the output data on said processing curve at an LUT4. In such a way, an LUT can be easily set. It is also possible to designate two bright/dark points of an interested area and to set the both ends of the gradation processing curve at the luminance data on said two points or their periphery.
