PURPOSE:To speed up initialization and erasing of recording by forming a recording layer of an alloy having a specific compsn. and providing 1st and 2nd protective layers so as to control the cooling rate of the part of the recording layer to be irradiated with a light beam. CONSTITUTION:The recording layer 13 of an information recording medium having a substrate 11, the recording layer 13 which is recorded with and erased of information by a phase change taking place between different crystal phases when irradiated with the light beam, and the 1st and 2nd protective layers 12, 14 is formed of the alloy having the compsn. expressed by the formula In50-xSb50-xM2x (0<x<=5atom.%). In the formula, M is the element having the crystallization temp. lower than the crystallization temp. of Sb. The 1st and 2nd protective layers 12, 14 are so formed as to control the temp. change in the part of the recording layer 13 to be irradiated with the light beam. The crystallization rate and phase change rate of M2x are thus increased and the initialization and erasing are speeded up, since the element having the crystallization temp. lower than the crystallization temp. of Sb is used. |
