Apparatus for use in assisting a patient to bathe, comprises a flexible sheet (1), a pair of rollers (2a, 2b) mountable one along each side of the bath (100), the sheet being connected between the rollers, and a mechanism for winding and unwinding the flexible sheet on and from the rollers whereby the patient may be raised from and lowered into the bath. The latter may comprise a mechanism operated by an electric motor or by crank (3). Roller (2b) may be releasably mounted and storable between receivers (7) so that the bath may be used normally. To prevent rapid unwinding and winding of the sheet, a high gear ratio drive shaft and roller, or a brake, may be used. Additional support e.g. a rigid support member extending centrally along the sheet, or a back rest may be used together with the apparatus. <IMAGE> |
