PURPOSE:To allow a caisson to penetrate according to plan by systematising excavation and penetration by a method in which a number of cutting edges are divided into several sets of blocks and the caisson body is settled while excavating and penetrating the cutting edges orderly for each block. CONSTITUTION:An outer guide plate 11 and a lower rib 13 below the pressure- resistant plate 12 of a cutting edge 10 are penetrated into the ground, and the cutting edges 10 are fixed through bolt holes by bolts. The ground below the blocks A and A' is excavated, and the cutting edges 10 are concurrently penetrated by means of a jack 20, and the blocks in the two symmetrical places are penetrated concurrently to settle down the caisson body 18. The occurrence of heaving and boiling during the penetration period can thus be prevented.
