PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of the nonuniformity of luminance and the variation of color tone on the luminous surface of a fluorescent lamp even when a reinforcing glass member is used by using a kind of glass which has nearly flat light transmissivity characteristics in the wave length range of visible light as the said reinforcing glass. CONSTITUTION:As for a reinforcing glass member 11 a white glass plate is used. The said glass plate contains less than about 0.02% of Fe2O3 and has high and nearly flat transmissivity characteristics in the wave length range of visible light. Further the surface of the said reinforcing glass plate 11 is roughened, so that the incident light to the glass plate 11 is reflected irregularly at the side wall and its large portion is sent to the uncoated portions 5, 5 of phosphor. Thereby the nonuniformity of luminance and the variation of color tone can be eliminated even when the reinforcing glass plate is used.
