PURPOSE:To house component members of a ribbon cassette in a small space, by properly determining the travel locus of a supply reel holding member and a take-up reel holding member. CONSTITUTION:A holding member 8 for a take-up reel 6 is pressed to the side of a ratchet 9 by a spring 11. Therefore, a click part 9a is brought into pressure contact with the periphery of the take-up reel 6, and due to the resulting friction force a take-up action from a supply reel 4 to the take-up reel 6 is performed. As the diameter of the take-up reel 6 varies, the holding member 8 rotates clockwise about a rotation center 1d. When a required minimum distance between the center of the supply reel 4 and that of the take-up reel 6 is established, a cam curved edge part 8c of the holding member 8 comes into pressure contact with a wedge-form part 7c of a holding member 7 for the supply reel 4. The holding member 7 comes into sliding contact with the holding member 8 along the cam curve thereof according to the diameter of the take-up reel 6, thereby sliding on a groove part 1c of a ribbon container 1 while keeping the required center-to-center distance of the reels 4 end 6 for conducting a take-up action.
