PURPOSE:To protect a comment of a mail by providing a table relating to a right of reference whether or not a mail receiver can reference a comment corresponding thereto and permitting the reference of comment only to a mail receiver having the comment reference right. CONSTITUTION:When a selection of a main desired to be referred comes from a receiver of a circulated mail to a keyboard, an electronic mail system controls a host computer to read and display a mail text. The receiver of the circulated mail refers to the displayed mail text and if it desires to refer to the comment of other circulated mail receiver altogether, the receiver uses a keyboard 6 to offer the comment display. Based on the address of a comment table 3 set to the main management table 3, the first comment registered on the table 3 is read and whether or not the comment is allowed to be displayed to comment display inquiry personnel is checked depending on protection class. When it is allowed, the read comment is set on a display area.
