PURPOSE:To make surface roughness of a workpiece into the smallest possible extent as well as to form the work surface into flawless mirror finishing, by constituting a polisher to polish a work in a way of rocking it while rotating a polishing tool and the work in making contact with each other. CONSTITUTION:A tool 32 and a workpiece 31 are rotated, and they are relatively rocked. Therefore, the tool 32 (an abradant such as a pellet) comes into uniformly contact with a work surface of the workpiece 31 without exception. And, the tool 32 is supported on a tool holder 2B via elastic bodies 33 and 34. With this constitution, even if the workpiece 31 is of aspherical form, the tool 32 can be made to smoothly follow the curved form. In consequence, surface roughness of the workpiece 31 is made into the smallest possible extent and, what is more, flawless mirror finishing is securable.
