PURPOSE:To make the abnormal state of a switching network always detectable through processing of hardware without giving any burden to a processor, by causing a connecting device and terminal, such as a personal computer, etc., to respectively send transmitting signals or test signals to their partners within a set time. CONSTITUTION:A transmitting data controlling section 11 adds synchronizing signals and control signals composed of 'STX' and 'ETX' indicating the commencement and termination of a text to texts from transmitting and receiving facilities, but transfers signals from a personal computer as they are to a transmitting and receiving section 12. When the text to be transmitted within a set time T does not arrive at the controlling section 11, the section 11 sends synchronizing signals to the transmitting and receiving section 12 at regular time intervals. At the adding device on the receiving side, signals sent from the transmitting side are supplied to a receiving data analyzing section 13 from the transmitting and receiving section 12 and the receiving intervals are measured. When no signal is received even after the set time T has passed, it is displayed that an abnormal state takes place and, at the same time, a receiving data abandoning section 15 is caused to abandon the received data.
