PURPOSE:To carry out vehicle speed control with high accuracy by detecting an actual traveling vehicle speed within a specified range of time after setting a constant vehicle speed to obtain the average of vehicle speed and obtaining the control target value of vehicle speed for carrying out constant speed traveling control using the difference between the constant speed set vehicle speed and the average of vehicle speed. CONSTITUTION:A microcomputer CPU receives the detected signals from plural speed sensors SP1, SP2, a throttle opening sensor SS, a set switch SP, and various sensors for detecting other operating conditions of a vehicle and switches via an input interface circuit IP. And, it outputs specified control signals to an automatic transmission actuator A1 and a constant speed traveling actuator A2 via an output interface circuit OP. In this case, after operating the set switch SP, an actual traveling vehicle speed is detected within a given range of time to obtain the average of vehicle speed. And, by using the difference between, a constant speed set vehicle speed and the average of vehicle speed, the control target value of vehicle speed for carrying out constant speed traveling control is obtained.
