PURPOSE:To normally transmit picture signals by the optimum communication method even if the intensity of the electric field weak and the circuit state is worse, by providing an electric field intensity measuring circuit and communication method discriminating circuit and informing a facsimile transmitter of the optimum communication method. CONSTITUTION:A facsimile receiver for radio circuit is provided with an electric field intensity measuring circuit 1, communication method discriminating circuit 2, procedure communicating circuit 3, and picture signal receiving circuit 4. The circuit 1 measures the intensity of the surrounding electric field and produces electric field intensity signals (a). The circuit 2 discriminates a communication method which is thought to be the optimum in corresponding to the measured intensity of the electric field on the basis of the signal (a), produces communication method informing signals (b), and inputs the signals (b) to the procedure communicating circuit 3 and picture signal receiving circuit 4. The circuit 3 informs a facsimile transmitter of the communication method corresponding to the content of the signals (b) by means of procedure signals (c). The circuit 4 discriminates the communication method on the basis of the signals (b). Moreover, the circuit 4 receives picture signals (d) sent from the facsimile transmitter by the communication method informed by means of the procedure signals (c) and decodes the picture signals (d) by the decoding method in accordance with the optimum communication method.
