According to the invention interruptions to the network are logged by noting their inherent relative voltage and inherent duration, pairs of voltage- and duration-threshold values are established for those logged interruptions which are statistically the most probable, pairs of voltage- and duration-setpoint values are fixed as a function of the corresponding pairs of threshold values employed, a signal for triggering a backup system utilising a buffer source is emitted when pairs of voltage- and duration-setpoint values are attained by the network, the build-up in the reestablishing of the network is observed by following the time-development of its voltage and duration values, and, if necessary, a signal for returning the installation to normal operation is emitted when one of these pairs of voltage- and duration-setpoint values is attained by the network, or else a signal for halting the functioning of the installation is emitted. <IMAGE>
