PURPOSE:To safely and easily perform a pipe-to-pipe connecting operation by connecting a first pipe laid under ground to a second pipe a part of which protrudes above the ground, inserting a core drill having a flexible shaft into the second pipe, and drilling a hole in the first pipe to connect both pipes. CONSTITUTION:A first pipe 12 is laid under the ground and a second pipe 14 is watertightly connected to a suitable point of the pipe 12 so that the other end of the second pipe protrudes above the ground. Both the pipes 12, 14 are normally disconnected through a lining 16 or the pipe 12. When the pipe 14 is used, it becomes necessary to connect both the pipes. Into the pipe 14 is inserted a flexible shaft 22, on the front end of which a core drill 20 and a center drill 26 protruding beyond the core drill are provided and rotated by rotating the flexible shaft 22. First the center drill 28, and then the core drill 20 are rotated successively while taking the thrust through plural weights 40 connected to the flexible shaft 22, and the drilling operation is performed while centering the pipe 12 or the lining 16. Thus, the pipe-connecting operation can be safely and easily performed on the ground.
