PURPOSE:To obtain a coating agent for optical fiber which is small in Young's modulus at low temp. and has low water absorption properties by using acrylate of high-mol.wt. polyether or polyester, specified liquid organosilane or siloxane and an initiator of polymerization as a principal agent. CONSTITUTION:A coating agent for light communication fiber consists of A acrylate of polyether or polyester having >=1,000 mean mol.wt., B liquid organosilane or siloxane shown in a mean molecular formula RaSiO(4-a)/2 [R is same kind or different kind of nonsubstituted or substituted monovalent hydrocarbon radical and 10-50mol.% thereof is aromatic radical and (a) is real number of 1<a<=4] and having <=20,000cp viscosity at 25 deg.C and C an initiator of polymerization as a principal agent. Optical communication fiber in which temp. dependency of Young's modulus is small and both Young's modulus at low temp. and degree of water absorption are low and transmission loss is small is obtained thereby. As these blending ratio, about 5-200pts.wt. component B and about 1-5pts.wt. component C are properly used for 100pts.wt. component A.
