PURPOSE:To make dot disturbance reduceable, by properly using a luminance signal/ chrominance component separation filter depending upon the correlation between pictures in the vertical and horizontal directions of composite color TV signals. CONSTITUTION:Delaying means 5a and 5b which can simultaneously obtain a notable sampling point, at which luminance signals and chrominance components are to be separated from each other, and sampling points close to the sampling point by delaying an inputted sampling signal and a picture correlation deciding means 7 which respectively detects the picture correlation in both vertical and horizontal directions from the values of the notable sampling point and close sampling points and decides the correlation of pictures are provided and, in accordance with the decided results, the output of a horizontal-direction filter 6b, vertical- direction filter 6a, or horizontal-vertical-direction filter 6c is used as the chrominance component output of a luminance signal/chrominance component separation filter. In this case, the vertical correlation detecting means 13a of the means 7 compares a value obtained by subtracting the vertical-direction noncorrelation energy from the horizontal-direction high-frequency luminance signal energy with a 2nd set value given from the outside and, when the former is higher than the latter, it is decided that correlation exists in the vertical direction. Therefore, dot disturbance can be reduced.
