PURPOSE:To permit printer printing at high speed by controlling the effective range of bit map image data bidimensionally. CONSTITUTION:The availability of data in an image memory 1 is controlled bidimensionally by a line direction data availability flag 11 and a unit areawise data availability storage means 25. Data of a line having even a single dot is transferred to the main memory 2 when data is read by a control device 5 from the image memory 1 A the time of transfer, the availability of dots is detected by a blockwise data availability detection means 3 and then is stored into a unit blockwise data availability flag memory 25. Next, a paper feed designation control code is output to printer from a line to which no data is transferred at the time of printing. On the other hand, data 9 is transmitted to the printer 9 by blocks containing data according to the content of a flag in the memory 25 from a line to which data is transferred, thus performing printing. Consequently time required for data transfer during printing is shortened.
