PURPOSE:To detect a leakage from the electrode part of an ignition plug by detecting the value of the insulation resistance of the ignition plug. CONSTITUTION:An ignition circuit 1 connecting between an ignition power source 5b and an ignition plug 8 and an insulation resistance detecting circuit 2 connecting a measuring power source 9, a current detecting part 10, and the ignition plug 8 in series are connected with each other in parallel with the ignition plug 8 being therebetween. Diodes 17 for preventing current entering into one of the circuits from the other circuit are interposed in both circuits, respectively. During starting at a low temperature, if unvaporized fuel sticks onto the electrode part 8a of the ignition plug 8 so that a leakage occurs, the insulation resistance is lowered. A voltage meter 15 measures the voltage so as to detect the leakage from the ignition plug 8. When thus measured voltage is greater than a reference voltage, the supply of fuel is reduced or shut off, thereby it is possible to promote the drying of the ignition plug 8.
