PURPOSE:To shorten the working time for forming a gibbous sliding surface by forming a recessed step portion on the outer periphery of the sliding surface in such a manner as to surround it. CONSTITUTION:A thrust bearing 1 has a recessed step portion 9 formed on the outer periphery of a sliding surface in such a manner as to surround the sliding surface, and the central portion of the sliding surface 4 is formed gibbously to be projected over the outer peripheral portion within the range of forming an oil film. The corner portion of the cylindrical surface of the recessed step portion 9 and the sliding surface 4 is formed to be circular by buffing at the time of forming the gibbous sliding surface. On measuring the working time, it is found that the working time for a sliding surface with a recessed portion is about 20 minutes and the working time of a sliding surface with a recessed step portion 9 is about 15 minutes. Accordingly, the working time for obtaining the required gibbous amount can be shortened by forming the recessed step portion 9.
