PURPOSE:To obtain a material which is harmless to plants, animals and fish and can retain its germicidal and antifouling activities over a long period of time, by mixing a mixture of thermoplastic resins having different physical properties with metallic powders having potent germicidal and antifouling activities. CONSTITUTION:Thermoplastic resins having different physical properties are mixed. For example, a thermoplastic resin having low water absorptivity is mixed with a thermoplastic resin having high water absorptivity. The mixture is mixed with metallic powders having potent germicidal and antifouling activities to obtain the title germicidal antifouling material. Examples of the metallic powders are those of silver, tin and copper, their alloys and their compds. Most of synthetic thermoplastic resins have low water absorptivity so that when metallic powders are simply mixed with them, only those existing on the surfaces of the resins or in the vicinity of the surfaces are dissolved out and most of them are enclosed therein and cannot exhibit persistent germicidal and antifouling activities. However, when a thermoplastic resin having low water absorptivity is mixed with a thermoplastic resin having high water absorptivity, the physical properties of the resins can be changed.
