PURPOSE:To render it feasible to control the heat radiation rate of a latent heat storing material, by adding simultaneously a thickener and a water retainer to a latent heat storing material comprising, as a main component, an inorg. or org. hydrated salt. CONSTITUTION:A latent heat storing material simultaneously comprising at least one inorg. or org. hydrated salt, a thickener which is water soluble or becoming water- soluble upon hydrolysis and which is effective in inhibiting phase separation phenomenon which generally occurs upon a phase change from a solid phase to a liq. phase, and a water retainer which is water-insoluble, has water absorption activity and is capable of controlling the latent heat radiation rate upon a phase change from a solid phase to a liq. phase. The latent heat storing material is capable of retaining its liq. phase state to a predetermined temp. irrespective of supercooling to an ambient temp. lower than the phase change temp. in the absence of any nucleating agent, and the latent heat radiation rate from the material can be controlled by regulating the content of the water retainer. Representative examples of the thickeners are natural polysaccharides, derivs. thereof, a protein and a natural or synthetic org. substance. Representative examples of water retainers are water-insoluble polymeric or inorg. water absorbents. |
