PURPOSE:To let an operator know an unknown word which is not registered in a word dictionary in an easy-to-understand way by reporting the whole of a 'KATAKANA' (square form a Japanese syllabary) string as the unknown word without reporting only words except some words as unknown words. CONSTITUTION:When it is known that part of a 'KATAKANA' character string of an input sentence from an input device 1 is not registered in the word dictionary 4 through the matching of a matching identification part 5, the whole of the 'KATAKANA' character string is reported as an unknown word to an operator by an unknown word control part 6. For example, when a word consisting of a 'KANA' character string equivalent to 'Reagan' is inputted, and only 'Re' in this 'KATAKANA' character string is not registered in the word dictionary 4, the whole of the 'KATAKANA' character string is reported as an unknown word by an unknown word control part 6. Consequently, the whole of the 'KATAKANA' character string is reported as the unknown word to the operator, the unknown word is grasped more easily and accurately than a conventional example, and proofreading operation is improved in efficiency.
