PURPOSE:To obtain a high-quality color image even if a device is not operated for a long period of time by cutting and discarding a photosensitive material which is let off to an exposing position and letting off the photosensitive material freshly to the exposing position when prescribed time or longer time elapses. CONSTITUTION:A timer constantly measures the time since the operation of an image recorder stops before the next operation is started. A control device judges whether the non-operation time is the time when the characteristics of the photosensitive material S are considerably deteriorated or not when the operation of the device is restarted. The photosensitive material which is let off from a photosensitive material magazine 14 and is set thus far in the exposing position 32 is cut by a cutter unit 23 and is discarded when the non-operation time exceeds the time when the deterioration of the color forming characteristic with age is permissible. The material S is then let off freshly and is set in the exposing position 32 so that the device is ready to make image recording. The photosensitive material which is let off thus far is put into the state of permitting the image recording as it is when the non-operation time does not exceed the time when the characteristics are deteriorated. The good color balance and the high-quality image are thereby obtd. even if the device is not operated for a long period of time.
