PURPOSE:To aim at recovery of exhaust energy by leading exhaust to a turbine, either by means of an insulated manifold when both the exhaust temperature and the exhaust pressure are less than a prescribed value, or by means of the insulated manifold and an uninsulated manifold when both the exhaust temperature and the exhaust pressure are not less than the prescribed value. CONSTITUTION:When an engine 1 is in its low engine-speed and low load, and the exhaust temperature is within an area of not more than the highest working temperature of a turbine 6a, and also, the exhaust pressure is within a range of not too high, an exhaust valve B is stopped by a valve control mechanism C, and consequently, exhaust energy is stored in an insulated manifold 3, and exhaust gas is led to the turbine 6a in a turbocharger 6. When the engine 1 becomes its high engine-speed and high load condition, and both the exhaust temperature detected by a temperature sensor 8a and the exhaust pressure detected by a pressure sensor 8b are raised to not less than a prescribed value, the exhaust valve B is operated by the valve control mechanism C, and exhaust gas is led to an uninsulated manifold 5.
