PURPOSE:To perform a time display with superior operability by calculating a tape time by a simple expression and displaying it even in any traveling state after a tape travels at a constant speed once. CONSTITUTION:A sensor 7 detects the rotation of a reel 3 and a rotation detection pulse generator 6 outputs (m) pulses in one turn of the reel 3. Here, R=nd+r, where (r) is the radius of a hub 4, (d) is the thickness of the tape 5, and R is the radius of the reel 3 when the tape 5 is wound (n) times; and 2piR=vfS, where (v) is the speed when the tape 5 travels at the constant speed and fS is the rotating cycle of the reel. Therefore, n=(v/2pid)fS-r/d, the number P of reel rest pulses is expressed by an equation I and the tape rest T obtained by converting the tape rest length L on the reel 3 into a constant-speed traveling time is expressed by an equation II.
