PURPOSE:To eliminate the restrictions on the thickness or size of a recording medium and enable recording on a booklet form recording medium, by detecting the movement of a main body of a recorder and recording in accordance with the movement. CONSTITUTION:When a main body A of a recorder is pressed against a booklet form recording paper such as a notebook so that an ink side of an ink ribbon is brought into the recording paper, a recording head 18 is pressed against the recording paper, with the ink ribbon therebetween. When the main body A is manually moved while pressing a recording start switch 21 in this condition, a rotatable member 7 making contact with the recording paper is rotated, and the rotating quantity and the rotating speed are detected by an encoding plate 10 and a photosensor 11. Namely, the moving quantity of the main body A is detected based on the number of pulses generated after the start of the movement, and the velocity of movement is detected based on the period of the pulses. Recording information stored in a RAM is read according to the results of the detection, and the recording head 18 is driven according to the information. Therefore, image recording corresponding to the velocity of the main body A is constantly carried out, under variations in the velocity.
