A display lighting installation comprises a plurality of lights (1-8) spaced apart along a line encircling a central area (A) which receives an object to be illuminated, and a control apparatus (20) arranged to cause dimming and brightening of the different lights independently of the others. The encircling line or ring of lights may include different coloured lights and there may be two rings of lights, the second ring being of white lights or including differently coloured lights. Preferably the object (or objects) mounted at the central area (A) are shaped, profiled, textured or relatively positioned so as to cast the shadows onto itself (or themselves) and are e.g. white so as to reflect light over a broad spectrum, whilst a substrate (P) on which the object or objects are mounted is non-reflective (e.g. black). |
