PURPOSE:To obtain an optical recording and reproducing device which is free from destruction of recorded data or the like to have a high reliability, by discriminating the position of an information track tracked with a light spot to confirm information tracks which plural light spots track. CONSTITUTION:If the information track which the light spot for erasing tracks and the information track which the light spot for recording and reproducing tracks, do not coincide with each other, a comparator 25 sends a recording inhibiting signal S11 to a first semiconductor laser driving circuit 28 which drives a first semiconductor laser 2 and a second semiconductor laser driving circuit 29 which drives a second semiconductor laser 8, and these circuits are commanded to inhibit recording and erasing operations, and the reproducing state is held. The difference between positions of two information tracks is operated and a track jump signal S12 corresponding to the difference is superposed on a tracking control circuit and is applied to a driving circuit 21, and the light spot for erasing is moved to the information track which the light beam for recording and reproducing tracks. Thus, erroneous erasing of information tracks other than a desired recording information track and overwriting of the desired recording information track are prevented.
