PURPOSE:To permit parallel execution of logical operations at a high speed by changing the polarization states of plural light sources to x polarized light or y polarized light by plural input digital signals, subjecting the intensity of the output pattern obtd. by multiplexing the light rays after transmission through 3 sheets of masks to photoelectric conversion and binarizing the signal. CONSTITUTION:The input data to flicker the array-shaped light sources 1, 2 are controlled by driving devices 11, 12. The luminous fluxes emitted from the light sources 1, 2 are collimated by lens arrays 3, 4 and are multiplexed by a half mirror 7 after the fluxes transmit polarizing masks 5, 6. The multiplexed light transmits a space light modulator 8. The polarization pattern of the modulator 8 is put in the position determined by the kind of the logical operation by a control device 13, by which the prescribed operation can be executed. The light transmitted through the modulator 8 is detected by a detector array 10 via an imaging lens array 9 and is digitized and binarized by an A/D converter 14. The parallel execution of the logical operations at the high speed is thereby permitted.
