PURPOSE:To easily store and retrieve a bit of code information and a bit of picture information and to improve the efficiency of the retrieval by storing the picture information and the code information in the different storage areas of an optical storage means with the aid of a control means. CONSTITUTION:First and second storage areas Ei and Ec are provided to the optical storage means OD and the code information and the picture information inputted as the information to be retrieved are respectively stored in the first and second storage areas Ei and Ec. Then, when the information stored in the optical disk is read out by dividing the areas into the code information storage area Ec and the picture information storage area Ei with the aid of a track, the information in the track can be recognized whether it is the code information or the picture information by recognizing the track number. Thus an operator does not need to be conscious whether the information to be an object is the code information or the picture information when the operator retrieves or displays the information. As the result, the retrieval, etc., can be easily executed.
