PURPOSE:To easily form a base film having much superior dimensional stability and surface smoothness by using an arom. polymer having an electron conjugated system. CONSTITUTION:A base film for a magnetic recording medium is formed with an arom. polymer having an electron conjugated system. The arom. polymer is an org. arom. polymer having a structure in which electrons can be conjugated over the whole or most of the molecular chain. A polymer obtd. by polymerizing thiophene, furan, benzene or a deriv. thereof, e.g., polythiophene, polyfuran, poly-p-phenylene, poly-p-phenylenevinylene or a deriv. thereof may be used as the arom. polymer. The base film has superior dimensional stability and surface smoothness and can be easily formed.
