PURPOSE:To eliminate a wait time for input, to shorten the time of projection processing, and to shorten the processing time of the whole device by finding the number of white or black cells longitudinally and laterally in specific range units when image data is inputted. CONSTITUTION:A scanner part 15 makes a scan in one-dot units and applies an interruption signal to a control part 19 at intervals of eight scans and a control part 19 starts various control operations. Consequently, a cell count part 23 is driven to perform the generation processing for a cell tube 26. When the generation of the cell table 26 and interruption processing are performed, the scanner part 15 starts a next scan. The cell table generation processing is finished in the reading operation for eight input scans. The cell table generation is therefore performed eight scans after the start of the reading operation and the reading operation is carried out in order in eight-scan units, thereby generating a cell table for eight scans after the reading operation is all performed. The cell table is generated in parallel to the scanning processing, so the total processing time can be shortened.
